CMSA qualifies for VEX World Champtionship!

On Saturday, February 27th, 6 teams from Centerra Mirage STEM Academy competed in the Arizona State VEX IQ Robotics Championship at Microchip Technologies in Chandler.  The students participated with 32 other elementary and middle school students from across the state. Two CMSA teams earned top spots for the day.

The Gear Turners (6th grade team) and the Geniuses (a pair of 4th grade students) earned Teamwork Champions and an Excellence Award respectively. The STEMgineers, a 4th grade team, qualified based on their programming skills.  The Geniuses are THE TOP Elementary VEX IQ Robotics team in the state of Arizona.

The students, who make up 3 of 8 robotics teams at the school, built and modified their robots from parts, and coded their own programs to make their robots run autonomously.  The students also completed research and presented STEM projects, as well as participated in robot skills challenges. The teams worked on their robots for months with the hopes of earning invitations to the VEX World Championships in Kentucky.

The teams and their coaches now begin the task to find sponsors to help them fund travel to Louisville, Kentucky for the VEX IQ World Championships this coming April. The students will have the opportunity to compete with robotics students from all over the world to earn a global win for Arizona and Avondale Elementary School District.
