The position of Chief Science Officer is available to students in 6th through 8th grades.  Students are elected by their classmates and serve as a voice for the students at Centerra Mirage STEM Academy. The Science Officers help with identifying speakers for school assemblies, along with field trips, science nights, and after school clubs.  Science Officers represent the STEM interests of their classmates, and serve as link between the student body and administrators.

Expectations of Chief Science Officers

The job of Chief Science Officer is a great way to become involved in our school.  Officers will be responsible for:

*helping to plan and run STEM-related activities on our campus, such as Science Cafes, Science assemblies, STEM week activities, after school clubs, etc.

*communicate school Science/STEM events by creating a newsletter, website blog/vlog, or Facebook posts

*serve as an ambassador within the school and community at PTSA meetings, school board meetings, open houses, or events outside of school

*be an active member of the statewide Chief Science Officer cabinet which includes attending a 3-day Summer Retreat at Tonto Creek Camp and 2 local cabinet meetings (September and February) during the school year

Interested students will be asked to create a short campaign video, 30-60 seconds in length, stating why you should be Chief Science Officer and how you can help bring more STEM activities to Centerra Mirage STEM Academy.  Elections will be held late April to elect Officers for next school year from 5th, 6th, and 7th grade classrooms.

Current openings include two 6th grade, one 7th and one 8th grade.
